I understand the perspective of people who think that the idea of God is problematic. If you believe in such a thing, you can potentially justify any terrible action without taking responsibility by saying it was part of a divine plan. People guide themselves and are responsible for every moment of experience they choose to embody. Divinity is within each person, not outside, and we are responsible for embodying it according to our own peculiar karmic predilections. The expression of divinity is correlated with the degree to which we allow ourselves to end our own violence. This process causes us to change ourselves more and more on and on forever. The kind of person who has ended all violence within herself is not confident. She pays careful attention.
